Borough Council Approves Motion to Decertify Large VFC and Gill Hall VFC
By a 5-2 vote at the Borough of Jefferson Hills Council meeting on Janury 14, 2019, Council officially recognized the decertification of Large Volunteer Fire Company and Gill Hall Volunteer Fire Company and authorized the proper Borough officials to undertake any actions(s) necessary to effectuate decertification. The following is a statement by Council President Chris King:

"It’s disheartening that Gill Hall VFC has forced Council’s hand in making this decision and have placed personal feelings above public safety. They have had every opportunity to be a part of the consolidation over the past year. The residents in the Gill Hall coverage area can be assured that we have taken all the necessary steps to provide a high level of fire protection. Broughton and Pleasant Hills fire companies have agreed to provide mutual aid with no cost to the Borough. We thank them for this service. The consolidation will provide a higher level of fire protection to our residents with increased fiscal responsibility. We encourage and invite individuals to join this new organization and thank the current firefighters for their selfless dedication in keeping our community safe.

This was not an easy decision, but the safety of our community is our number one priority. Gill Hall  is invited and welcome to join the consolidation and become a part of our fire service."
