Borough Seeking Volunteers for its Fire Companies
Borough Seeking Volunteers for its Fire Companies

In addition to the men and women who ride the trucks and put out fires, our fire companies need volunteers that have backgrounds in general business, accounting, medicine, law enforcement, mechanics, construction, computers and fundraising. Nationwide, its estimated that volunteer firefighters save the American taxpayer $37.2 billion dollars a year in labor costs.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming either a firefighter or administrative volunteer, call the Borough offices at 412-655-7735, and you will be put in touch with one of our fire departments. Also, you are welcome to visit the fire stations and the volunteers will be happy to show you around. All three of our VFD’s have Facebook pages where you can see photos and read more about their activities.

Volunteer firefighters represent over 70% of all our nation’s 1.1 million firefighters. Out of the 30,125 fire departments in the US, 25,770 of those are staffed by all volunteer firefighters compared to 4,355 that are staffed by paid or career firefighters.
