The
final lane will remain closed at that location while work continues to
remediate a slope above the road. As that work continues, there is not
currently any timetable for when the final lane will
be reopened. Stop signs will be used to control traffic where the road
becomes a single lane, and drivers are urged to use caution in the area.
Both lanes of Worthington Avenue between Route 51 and Oneida Drive had been closed since
June 14, 2018 because of a landslide and slope remediation work that is
needed to prevent future landslides and to ensure that the road is safe
for vehicles. Crews have removed about 2,000 cubic yards of unstable
material from the area, but more work is required,
including the removal of additional unstable material as well as
installation of spring drains, topsoil procurement and placement,
seeding and mulching, erosion and sediment control management,
reestablishment of roadway drainage, and exploratory excavation
and surveying.
The project is being done by Frank J. Zottola Construction, Inc. of Butler.
