Summer Recreation Registration NOW OPEN!

The Borough will be offering its summer camp this year from July 5 – July 30 at Gill Hall Park.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions as well as the limited number of campers (96), both former campsites were consolidated into one site.  The Borough Summer Recreation program is available for children ages 6 – 10, or those students entering first grade through students entering sixth grade.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, changes and safety protocols will be instituted for the protection of campers and counselors alike.  Participants will need to follow safety measures including mandatory mask wearing and social distancing while at camp.  To further ensure camp safety, participants will be grouped into “pods” of 8 students who will act independently from other pods throughout the camp.  This will safeguard against potential camp-wide outbreaks as well as assist in contact tracing if an outbreak occurs.

Space is limited, and spots are expected to fill quickly.  Those interested must turn in their application, liability waiver release, and $40 payment to the Jefferson Hills Public Library during regular hours.  Once all spots are filled, a waiting list will be kept in the event spots open up.

Note from the Mayor: COVID-19 Vaccination Phases for Pennsylvania

There are four phases to the distribution of the vaccine: 1a, 1b, 1c, and 2. Pennsylvania is currently in Phase 1a, which mainly includes health care workers and nursing home residents. The state health department will announce when we are moving to Phase 1b. Individuals in 1b include:

· People ages 75 and older

· First responders – our emergency personnel – police officers, fire personnel, EMS

· Correctional officers

· U.S. Postal Service workers

· Grocery store workers

· Education workers

· Clergy and other essential support for houses of worship

· Public transit workers

· Individuals caring for children or adults in early childhood and adult day programs

This list is not inclusive. The complete list is on the Health department’s website.  Individuals should check with their pharmacist or physician to see into which category they fall and possible target dates. Vaccination locations will be published by the PA Health Department. I’m going to receive the vaccine when I’m eligible. I strongly recommend, your health permitting, that all Jefferson Hills residents get the vaccine to protect one another in our community. Be advised that the COVID-19 vaccine will not be the cure for the virus. It will be another tool in the toolbox for our fight against COVID-19,?and we must continue to practice other mitigation efforts, like wearing a mask, hand washing, and physical distancing.

- Mayor Janice Cmar
