The Environmental Advisory Council will host a Marcellus Drilling Presentation scheduled for June 15th at 7:00 PM, and will be held in the Community Room at the Municipal Center, 925 Old Clairton Road. This meeting will be in-person. This presentation will feature speakers Dr. Alexandra Hakala and Dr. Ned Ketyer.
Dr. Alexandra Hakala is an Environmental Geochemist whose research interest focus on how chemical reactions can increase the efficiency of producing energy while minimizing environmental impacts, and how to monitor the sources of fluids and gases in natural systems. Dr. Hakala is a current member of the Borough of Jefferson Hills Environmental Advisory Council. She will present a technical overview of the well pad development and the local geology targeted for hydrocarbon resource extraction.
Dr. Ned Ketyer is a Pittsburgh-area pediatrician with special interested in developmental pediatrics, preventative medicine, and environmental health. Dr. Ketyer is a consultant for the Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project bringing attention to the health impacts of shale gas development in the Marcellus Shale gas patch, a board member of Physicians for Social Responsibility - Pennsylvania, and a Climate Reality Project Leader.
Residents may sign up for public comment at the meeting, or submit a comment to be read ahead of time. All submitted public questions and/or comments will need to be received by 5:00 PM p.m. on June 15th to be read during the meeting.
